22 Rescued Dogs to Appear on New TV Show

22 rescued dogs to appear on new tv showProfessional dog trainer Brandon McMillan has trained thousands of dogs in Hollywood for the big screen and commercials, but 22 rescue dogs will be his luckiest pupils to-date. CBS’s new television show “Lucky Dog” will have McMillan visiting shelters where he will rescue, train and place dogs at their forever homes.

According to McMillan, the biggest challenge will be the limited number of dogs he can help. He said: “I can only take one out. That means I have to walk by 99 I can’t take. All 100 are very trainable, very place-able and just as smart as the next dog. Often the one I choose just comes down to one I make a connection with.”

As part of the show, he will spend several hours at a shelter each week, evaluating dogs before he selects his subject. Once his work is complete, the dogs will be excellent at seven commands like sit, stay, down, come, off, heel and no. McMillan will work with the dogs in Southern California at his home called Lucky Dog Ranch. From there, he will evaluate families who express an interest in adopting one of the dogs.

He went on to say: “My theory of training is a lot like martial arts. You learn the technique one day and you perfect it for years to come. With the dogs, I teach them technique when I am training them. I teach the family to perfect the technique over the years to come.”

McMillan will also spend time working with the family to train them and better acquaint them with their new pet’s needs. Dogs selected will not have abuse as part of their past, and most of the dogs will be five years and younger because of preferences from the adoptive families.

“Lucky Dog” airs on CBS on Saturday mornings after “Dr. Chris Pet Vet.” McMillan says the show is aimed at 13- to 16-year-olds, however, he would be shocked if the show didn’t develop a more far-reaching following.
