Get Your Pet Microchipped with Special Pricing at Local Organizations
Throughout the month of March, St. Louis organizations are offering affordable microchipping for your pet. It’s all part of the one-year anniversary celebration for STLLostPets.org, a free online database that reunites pet owners with their dogs and cats. The organization is a collaboration of the Animal Protective Association (APA), St. Louis County Animal Care and Control and the Humane Society of Missouri.
For $19.99 per pet, you can take advantage of more than 50% savings at three of St. Louis’ largest animal care agencies until March 31. According to STLLostPets.org, dogs without microchips are only returned to their owners 21.9% of the time, and cats are returned only 1.8% of the time. On the other hand, pets that are microchipped have a much higher rate of return, including 52.2% for dogs and 38.5% of the time for cats.
STLLostPets.org says that 90% of stray, lost, and abandoned pets end up at one of their three agencies, but microchipping assists them in returning lost pets to their owners. The process is painless and involves inserting a tiny transponder under the pet’s skin that is scannable should a pet be separated from their owner. Every microchip comes with an I.D. number that is linked to the owner’s contact information, making it exponentially easier to reunite pets and their owners.
