Dogs Watch TV Too & New Programs Are Made Just For Them
If you think your dog is incapable of having a favorite TV show, think again! DogTV has just finished up a stretch of test marketing and is now available nationwide over the internet or through DirecTV. The channel, which plays non-stop imagery that appeals to dogs, is becoming more and more popular among pet owners. Some say they leave it on while they’re at work, or when they’re trying to get stuff done around the house.
While some argue that dogs are partially colorblind–they can evidently see blues and yellows, but orange looks the same as green–and wonder how that impacts their ability to watch TV, evidence shows that dogs feel more comfortable in the presence of TV. According to DogTV:
DOGTV provides television for dogs with three types of programming offering relaxing and stimulating content as well as positive behavioral reinforcements. Dogs that are left alone tend to become anxious so the calming sounds and music in the relaxing segments on DOGTV were created to keep them peaceful. Many dogs also suffer from a lack of stimulation, which becomes acute when their parents are away. The stimulating segments provide dogs with invigorating images, animation and exciting real world sounds to keep them up and running.
If you don’t believe in their programming, maybe the laundry list of animal experts who endorse DogTV will help you change your mind. Ron Levi, founder of DogTV, says, “The whole point is not for dogs to sit there and watch for hours. DogTV is there for them when they are alone. It will make them feel better, relax them, make them feel not so alone.”
While the numbers aren’t available yet to see just how many four-legged couch potatoes have tuned in, DirecTV says they have 20,000 million views, so the potential is there for this to be a big hit. Levi and his associates have a lot of science and experts behind their idea, so while they realize that some people might laugh, they’re hoping people will give it a try and let their dogs decide.
